Role Snapshot

Suger, a VC-backed cloud marketplace SaaS company with ~60 employees, is hiring a fully remote Bookkeeper in the Philippines. You will own day-to-day accounting in QuickBooks Online on a fixed night shift (11pm–8am PHT, aligned to US Pacific hours). Contractor engagement; 2+ years of bookkeeping experience required. Salary not disclosed.

What This Role Is

Suger needs a remote Bookkeeper to manage daily accounting operations in sync with its North America team. This contractor role is built for a Philippines-based professional who can reliably cover US Pacific business hours — the shift runs 11pm–8am Philippine Time. The core work lives in QuickBooks Online: recording transactions, reconciling accounts, managing AP and AR, and supporting month-end close. You will hold direct ownership of your accounts with minimal supervision, communicating in English with internal stakeholders across time zones.

About Suger

Suger builds the orchestration layer that simplifies how B2B software companies sell through cloud marketplaces — including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Alibaba, Oracle, and Snowflake. The platform manages the full deal lifecycle from transaction to revenue growth on these channels. Roughly 60 people work across San Francisco and Vancouver, serving around 300 customers ranging from large enterprises like Snowflake and Workday to leading AI-native companies. The team includes alumni from Google, Meta, Salesforce, and Confluent as well as operators from high-growth startups. The company is VC-backed and reports strong runway.

What You Will Own

  • Maintain and update financial records in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Record and categorize daily financial transactions with accuracy
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts on a regular cadence
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows end to end
  • Process invoices and handle employee expense report submissions
  • Support month-end close procedures and help prepare financial reports
  • Keep all accounting documentation organized and audit-ready
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders on accounting questions and follow-ups
  • Take on ad hoc finance and administrative tasks as they arise

Must-Have Requirements

  • At least 2 years of bookkeeping experience
  • Hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational discipline
  • Self-directed work style — ability to identify issues and drive tasks to completion with minimal oversight
  • Availability to work 11pm–8am Philippine Standard Time (equivalent to 8am–5pm US Pacific)

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with U.S. bookkeeping standards and practices
  • Familiarity with payroll processing or sales tax handling
  • Working knowledge of tools such as Ramp, Bill.com, Stripe, Rippling, or Rise

Skills Breakdown: Must-Have vs. Nice-to-Have

The hard requirements are QuickBooks Online proficiency and at least two years of bookkeeping experience — this is a mid-level role where independent execution matters more than senior credentials. English fluency is equally non-negotiable given daily cross-timezone stakeholder communication. The nice-to-haves — U.S. payroll, sales tax, and fintech tools like Ramp or Bill.com — signal that the scope will expand over time, so candidates who can close those gaps quickly will have a clear advantage as the role grows.

Compensation and Contractor Status

Suger has not disclosed a rate or salary range for this position. This is an independent contractor engagement, not a direct employment relationship — a standard structure for cross-border remote hires to the Philippines. Under a contractor arrangement, statutory employment benefits, government-mandated contributions, and employee protections do not apply. Before accepting any offer, candidates should clarify the fee structure, payment currency, invoicing cadence, and whether any equipment or internet allowance is provided.

Why Join Suger

  • VC-backed with solid runway — the company describes itself as well-funded with no near-term capital pressure
  • Flat organizational structure with minimal hierarchy and faster decision-making
  • Full ownership of your accounts — direct responsibility, not a support or assistant-level role
  • Colleagues with pedigree from Google, Meta, Salesforce, Confluent, and fast-scaling startups
  • Work at the center of B2B cloud marketplace commerce, described as one of the fastest-growing sales channels

Location and Work Setup

This is a fully remote role open to candidates based in the Philippines. The shift is fixed at 11pm–8am Philippine Standard Time (8am–5pm US Pacific), so a stable setup for late-night work is a practical necessity. No relocation is required or implied. The job posting does not mention visa sponsorship. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own workspace, internet connection, and equipment.

Frequently asked questions

What are the working hours for this remote Bookkeeper role?

The shift is fixed at 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM Philippine Standard Time, which corresponds to 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM US Pacific Time. This is not a flexible or asynchronous schedule — availability during these exact hours is a stated hard requirement.

Is this a full-time employment position or a contractor engagement?

Suger is hiring for this role under an independent contractor arrangement, not as a direct employee. The posting explicitly labels the employment type as Independent Contractor.

What is the salary or hourly rate for this role?

Suger has not published a compensation figure in this posting. Candidates should ask about the rate, payment currency, and invoicing terms directly with Suger during the hiring process.

Is QuickBooks Online the required platform, or are other accounting tools acceptable?

QuickBooks Online (QBO) is listed as a must-have proficiency. Other tools — Ramp, Bill.com, Stripe, Rippling, and Rise — appear only in the nice-to-have section and do not substitute for QBO experience.

Do I need prior experience working with U.S.-based companies?

Supporting a U.S.-based company is listed as a plus, not a requirement. The mandatory baseline is 2+ years of general bookkeeping experience and QuickBooks Online proficiency. U.S. bookkeeping practices, payroll, and sales tax are all in the nice-to-have section.
