What This Role Is About

Comstock's ParkX team needs a dependable overnight Security Officer to keep a mixed-use property in Glenarden, MD running safely and smoothly through the night. You'll be the single point of accountability on-site during those hours — handling routine patrols, controlling access, responding to incidents, and being the face of the property for anyone who needs assistance. This is an active, high-visibility role, not a static post: you're on your feet, moving through the property, making judgment calls, and keeping detailed records across every shift.

About Comstock and ParkX

Comstock is a real estate and property management company with a growing portfolio of transit-oriented, mixed-use developments across the mid-Atlantic region. ParkX is its parking and property operations division, overseeing the day-to-day management of plazas, garages, and public-facing retail and residential spaces. Security staff work directly alongside property managers and, at select locations, marketing and events teams. Comstock emphasizes upward mobility within its organization, offering defined advancement paths and annual professional development funding for employees across its expanding portfolio.

What You'll Do on Shift

  • Screen and authorize entry for residents, visitors, and service providers
  • Perform regular on-foot sweeps of building interiors and the exterior perimeter
  • Monitor for vandalism, unauthorized activity, or damage to property assets
  • Identify and document safety hazards, then report findings to management
  • Issue formal banning notices to individuals who violate property rules and maintain organized records of all such notices
  • Keep plaza kiosk areas tidy and presentable throughout the overnight shift
  • Uphold and communicate the no-pets-on-plaza policy to all guests
  • Stay current on key property information — drop-off zones, contact numbers, rules of conduct — and share it with visitors on request
  • Flag any unscheduled or unrecognized work activity on the property to the management team
  • Contact ParkX and both commercial and residential management immediately when unauthorized plaza parking is observed
  • Explain fire-lane and emergency-vehicle access requirements to guests to keep those areas clear at all times
  • Secure loading dock access points as needed throughout the shift
  • Support marketing event setup, monitoring, and breakdown at Reston and Loudoun Station locations as needed
  • At Reston Station: oversee valet operations and prevent unauthorized vehicle parking on the plaza or access ramps
  • At Reston Station: enforce the designated plaza traffic and event plan during special events
  • At Reston Station: direct and keep vehicle traffic moving onto and through the plaza

What You Must Bring

  • Valid driver's license with no major violations on record
  • Willingness and availability to work overnight and weekend shifts as scheduled
  • Comfort communicating clearly with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Strong sense of urgency and sound problem-solving judgment

Skills That Matter Most in This Role

This position sits at the intersection of security operations and customer service. The non-negotiable credentials are a Virginia state security officer certification and a clean driver's license — without both, the application cannot proceed. Beyond those, the work rewards people who can de-escalate calmly, write a clear incident report, and sustain their own accountability through a full overnight shift without prompting. You'll use the property's digital security logging system for patrol tracking; no advanced technical skills are listed as required. Soft skills — composure under pressure, professional communication, and trustworthiness — carry significant weight because you are the sole overnight authority on-site.
