Role at a Glance
Equip is hiring a Group PM to own AI and clinical intelligence product strategy for the US's leading virtual eating disorder treatment platform. You'll bridge AI/ML engineering and clinical care teams, governing responsible AI deployment across a HIPAA-regulated environment. Full-time, 100% remote within the USA. Salary: $148,000–$185,000/yr. Requires 8+ years of PM experience with significant AI/ML work in a regulated or clinical setting.
About the Role
This is a senior product leadership position at Equip, a fully remote healthcare company delivering evidence-based eating disorder treatment across all 50 US states. As Group PM for AI and Clinical Intelligence, you will own the product vision and execution roadmap for AI-powered capabilities supporting care teams and patients alike — spanning decision support, clinical documentation, and care coordination tooling. The role sits at a high-visibility intersection of engineering, clinical operations, and executive leadership, reporting directly into product leadership with board-level exposure.
About Equip
Equip launched in 2019 with a clear mandate: make effective eating disorder treatment accessible to everyone regardless of geography or background. The company has grown into a nationally recognized virtual program operating across all 50 US states, pairing every patient with a dedicated care team — therapist, dietitian, physician, peer mentor, and family mentor. Equip is partnered with most major health insurance carriers and publishes strong clinical outcomes data. Named to Time's list of most influential companies in 2023, Equip has been fully distributed since founding and has built a culture rooted in lived experience, clinical rigor, and equitable access to care.
What You'll Own
- Set and maintain the AI and clinical intelligence product roadmap, aligning it with clinical outcomes goals, company strategy, and regulatory obligations
- Work with AI/ML engineering teams to define scope, prioritize builds, and ship models and features — converting clinical requirements into engineering specifications and translating technical tradeoffs back to clinical stakeholders
- Partner with therapists, dietitians, and medical providers to keep AI-assisted tools grounded in gold-standard eating disorder care without introducing patient safety risks
- Establish responsible AI governance for clinical contexts: model evaluation criteria, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, escalation protocols, and bias/safety monitoring
- Build evaluation frameworks that measure model performance, clinical impact, and provider trust — not just product usage metrics
- Shepherd AI products through the full build cycle: problem framing, vendor and model selection, prototyping, clinical validation, launch, and post-launch iteration
- Translate healthcare compliance requirements — HIPAA, informed consent, clinical documentation standards — into concrete product and model requirements
- Conduct primary research with patients, providers, and clinical staff to identify where AI can genuinely reduce care burden and where it should not be applied
- Present AI strategy, risk posture, and performance results to executive, clinical, and board audiences
- Mentor PMs on AI and clinical intelligence workstreams and potentially grow a dedicated PM team over time
Must-Have Qualifications
- 8+ years of product management experience, including significant AI/ML delivery in a regulated or clinically sensitive domain
- Technical fluency in AI/ML concepts — including model evaluation, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and guardrail design — sufficient to partner credibly with engineering
- Proven track record building products that integrate into clinical workflows and healthcare operations
- Working expertise in healthcare compliance frameworks, including HIPAA and clinical decision support standards
- Demonstrated ability to define and implement AI governance in ambiguous, high-stakes environments
- Cross-functional leadership experience spanning engineering, clinical, and executive stakeholders
- Rigorous, data-driven approach to tracking product performance, clinical impact, and patient/provider safety outcomes
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in mental health care or eating disorder treatment services specifically
- Hands-on experience with clinical decision support tools, care coordination platforms, or clinical documentation AI
- Familiarity with responsible AI or AI governance frameworks designed for healthcare contexts
- Experience directly managing or closely partnering with applied AI/ML engineering teams
- Knowledge of value-based care models and healthcare quality measurement methodologies
- Understanding of behavioral health-specific regulations and patient privacy requirements
Skills Breakdown: Must-Have vs. Nice-to-Have
The non-negotiable baseline is a trio of HIPAA-compliance knowledge, hands-on AI/ML technical fluency (especially model evaluation and RAG-based architectures), and proven product experience inside clinical workflows — a generalist PM background will not clear the bar. Technical AI literacy is explicitly required because this role involves real scoping conversations with ML engineers, not just feature roadmaps. Preferred qualifications — eating disorder or mental health domain experience, AI governance frameworks, applied ML team management — meaningfully strengthen a candidacy but are not eliminators. The 8-year minimum signals Equip needs someone who can govern independently from day one.
