Role at a Glance

Cyvl's first dedicated marketing hire. Boston, MA — fully on-site. Salary: $165,000–$200,000/yr. Scope spans PR, hardware launch GTM, brand strategy, thought leadership, and full budget ownership. Tools required: HubSpot, PostHog, ManyChat-style automation. Two audiences: municipal government agencies and VC investors. Experience target: 5–10 years B2B marketing.

What This Role Is

Cyvl is at an inflection point: statewide agency deals are landing, a Series A–to–B transition is underway, and the company's first new hardware sensor in four years is about to launch. As Head of Marketing — the company's lead marketing hire — you'll build the entire function from the ground up: earned media, go-to-market strategy, brand, and thought leadership. The role demands fluency across two distinct audiences simultaneously: municipal government agencies and venture capital investors.

About Cyvl

Cyvl applies AI, LiDAR sensing, and computer vision to the problem of public infrastructure management. Its platform ingests raw sensor data and converts it into structured, continuously updated intelligence that city and county agencies can act on — replacing manual inspection workflows that previously took months. The company is Boston-based, serves hundreds of communities across the United States, and is on a growth trajectory from Series A toward Series B. The culture is direct, ownership-oriented, and fast-moving, with a strong emphasis on real-world impact over theoretical work.

What You'll Own

  • Drive earned media and public relations, coordinating directly with city and agency partners to generate coverage across trade, regional, and national outlets — including producing press conferences independently end to end
  • Design and execute the go-to-market strategy for a new hardware sensor launch, starting from scratch with no existing playbook to follow
  • Lead content strategy and execution across web, social, and email; maintain consistent brand voice, visual identity, and messaging across both municipal buyer and VC investor audiences
  • Develop thought leadership programs to position Cyvl as the authoritative voice in infrastructure intelligence; source and manage freelancers and agencies with clear scope, budget, and deliverable agreements
  • Own the marketing budget, planning cycle, and program performance reporting — tracking spend and measuring impact across every active channel

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of B2B marketing experience with a track record of building programs that accelerate sales-led growth in direct partnership with a sales team
  • Proven ability to translate complex or highly technical products into clear, audience-specific narratives that build authority within a defined community (e.g., public agency decision-makers)
  • Deep buyer understanding — you know who you're talking to and what actually moves them to act, not just what creates awareness
  • Hands-on PR experience with measurable earned-media outcomes, plus a history of managing external agencies against defined deliverables
  • Ability to operate lean: set strategy at a senior level and execute across multiple workstreams simultaneously without a large team underneath
  • Working fluency with conversation automation tools in the ManyChat style (DM flows for lead nurturing), HubSpot, and PostHog
  • Strong project and people management skills calibrated to a fast-moving startup environment
  • An active on-demand creative network — videographers, art directors, motion designers — that can be activated quickly for ad-hoc production needs

Nice to Have

  • Instinct for shareable, high-engagement content; track record building an audience on X, LinkedIn, or Instagram; comfort on both sides of the camera
  • Ability to capture and produce compelling content solo when a moment doesn't allow for a full crew — or the judgment to hire someone who can

Skills Breakdown: Must vs. Nice-to-Have

The hard requirements weight toward strategic B2B marketing leadership with earned-media and sales-alignment credentials — pure brand or demand-gen backgrounds without PR or GTM ownership will likely be a stretch. Technical tool fluency (HubSpot, PostHog, ManyChat-type flows) is a genuine gate, not a preference; analytics and budget reporting are explicit ownership areas. The nice-to-haves center on solo content capability and social media presence — highly valued in a startup that needs to move quickly on cultural moments, but secondary to core B2B and PR experience. The experience target of 5–10 years maps to a seasoned Director-level operator.
