On the benefits side, Atlas has built a reputation for above-average coverage: full medical, dental, and vision at no cost to the employee, and a 401(k) that vests immediately. What You'll Do

  • Direct shift maintenance operations, coordinating crew assignments based on operational priority and scheduled maintenance windows
  • Act as the primary liaison between field maintenance crews, site operations, and plant leadership throughout your shift
  • Personally troubleshoot and repair conveyor systems and associated bulk-handling equipment alongside your team
  • Coach and guide mechanics through complex fault diagnosis and repair procedures
  • Monitor equipment throughput and system health metrics to identify developing problems before they escalate
  • Enforce Atlas safety standards alongside MSHA/OSHA requirements, LOTO protocols, and site permit procedures — issuing stop-work orders when conditions warrant
  • Lead pre-task planning sessions: job safety analyses, Take 5 reviews, hazard identification, and permitting
  • Manage the full work order lifecycle in the CMMS — opening, documenting progress, and closing out accurately
  • Produce shift handover reports that clearly communicate completed work, open items, and ongoing operational risk
  • Coordinate planned and emergency downtime windows to protect throughput and minimize production interruptions
  • Escalate safety, equipment reliability, or operational concerns to the Conveyor Manager as required
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives aimed at lifting maintenance quality and equipment uptime

Must-Have Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience with specific hands-on work on conveyor systems and heavy equipment
  • Demonstrated prior experience in a lead, senior, or acting-supervisor capacity within a maintenance team
  • Strong multi-discipline troubleshooting ability: mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems
  • Solid working knowledge of conveyor mechanics and bulk material handling equipment
  • Deep familiarity with safety systems: LOTO, permit-to-work, and hazard identification and control
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and OEM technical documentation
  • Hands-on experience using a CMMS platform for work order management and reporting
  • Clear communicator with proven leadership effectiveness in fast-paced, field-based environments
  • Valid driver's license in good standing per company MVR standards
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSHA certification or substantial experience working in MSHA-regulated mining or extraction environments
  • Formal supervisory or leadership development training
  • Trade certifications in welding, fabrication, or a related mechanical discipline
  • Practical exposure to industrial control systems — PLCs, SCADA, or similar automation platforms
  • Experience planning and sequencing maintenance shutdowns and downtime events

Skills Breakdown: Must-Have vs. Nice-to-Have

The core technical bar is deep conveyor and bulk-handling expertise paired with multi-discipline troubleshooting across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems. CMMS literacy and blueprint-reading are non-negotiable from day one. The seniority gate is the leadership layer — five-plus years of maintenance experience with demonstrated crew oversight. MSHA certification, trade credentials (welding, fabrication), and automation literacy (PLCs, SCADA) are the differentiators that separate competitive candidates from the field. This is a lead-tier field role, not a passive supervisory title: expect to be hands-on alongside your crew on a regular basis.
