Role at a Glance
AlertMedia is hiring a hands-on engineering manager to lead its Intelligence Center team from Mexico, fully remote. The role splits between active coding in Python, Django, React, and Next.js and people leadership — with AI adoption and threat-intelligence product delivery at the core. Must-haves: 5+ years of scalable app experience, AWS, proven team management, and permanent Mexican residency. No visa sponsorship available.
What This Role Actually Is
This is not a pure people-management seat. AlertMedia expects the person in this role to write and review production code in Python, Django, Next.js, React, and Node while simultaneously setting technical direction for the Intelligence Center team, coaching engineer growth, and coordinating with product, customer support, and operational stakeholders. You will also champion AI-assisted development practices — both embedded in the products and across the team's daily workflow. The environment is Agile, collaboration is cross-functional, and strong English communication is an explicit, enforced requirement.
About AlertMedia
AlertMedia builds software that helps organizations manage risk — detecting emerging threats, coordinating emergency responses, and keeping distributed workforces informed during critical events. Their unified platform serves enterprise clients across more than 150 countries, including Coca-Cola Bottling, JetBlue, and Walmart. The company has earned multiple workplace recognition awards and operates under values centered on customer focus, accountability, and straightforward collaboration. The Intelligence Center is the product surface this engineering manager will own end-to-end, covering AI/ML models, data pipelines, and the platform capabilities built on top of them.
What You Will Own
- Lead the full lifecycle of intelligence-focused products — from architecture through deployment and ongoing operation — including the AI/ML models and data pipelines that drive them
- Set technical direction and actively support the career development of your direct-report engineers
- Serve as the primary engineering partner for product management, customer support, and the operational teams who depend on these tools daily
- Write and review production code in Python, Django, Next.js, React, and Node to uphold integration quality and engineering standards
- Identify and operationalize AI-assisted development tooling across the team and embed AI capabilities directly into the products being built
- Run team delivery inside an Agile cadence using Git, JIRA, Jenkins, and Slack
- Communicate engineering progress, tradeoffs, and plans clearly across organizational boundaries — in writing and in real-time collaboration
Must-Have Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience building and shipping scalable web applications using modern frameworks — React, Django, and Node are explicitly required
- Demonstrated experience leading or managing a software engineering team
- Hands-on proficiency with Amazon AWS services
- Proven experience designing and maintaining third-party API integrations
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams without losing quality or delivery predictability
- Working proficiency with AI/ML tooling applied to product development workflows
- Fluent English — both written and spoken — required for cross-team collaboration across the organization
- Permanent legal residency in Mexico — a hard requirement with no exceptions or workarounds
Preferred — Not a Hard Requirement
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline — explicitly listed as preferred in the job description; strong candidates without a degree are not disqualified
Skills: What Is Non-Negotiable vs. What Helps
Core required stack: Python and Django on the backend; React, Next.js, and Node on the frontend; AWS for cloud infrastructure. Git, JIRA, Jenkins, and Slack form the delivery and communication toolchain — day-one familiarity is assumed. Engineering management experience is non-negotiable: this role is not a first-time lead stepping up, but someone who has managed a team and can demonstrate it. AI/ML tool proficiency is listed as an explicit requirement, not a differentiator. A CS/CE degree strengthens candidacy but is marked preferred — demonstrated, practical experience is the primary qualifying bar.
Salary and Compensation Clarity
AlertMedia has not disclosed a specific base salary figure for this role. The listing describes compensation as competitive and includes an annual performance bonus in addition to base pay. The Christmas bonus (Aguinaldo) is explicitly named — this is Mexico's statutory year-end payment under federal labor law, not a discretionary perk. Separately, 100% of medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums are employer-paid, and a monthly work-from-home stipend offsets home-office costs. Candidates should benchmark against current market rates for remote engineering manager roles in Mexico and negotiate accordingly.
Benefits Package
- 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Annual company performance bonus
- Christmas bonus (Aguinaldo) — statutory Mexican year-end payment
- Parental leave program
- Generous vacation and public holiday policy
- Monthly work-from-home stipend
- Full equipment package provided: laptop, monitor, and accessories
- Language immersion program — English, Spanish, and others available
- Structured career development: mentorship, tech talks, and personalized 1:1 growth sessions
- Recognition and rewards program for individual and team contributions
Location and Remote Policy
This position is 100% remote and must be operated from within Mexico. Permanent legal residency in Mexico is a hard requirement — AlertMedia does not offer relocation assistance or visa sponsorship for this role. A monthly stipend and full equipment package (laptop, monitor, accessories) support remote work setup. Mexico City appears as the reference location for job-board purposes, but the team works distributed across Mexico.
