Title: Manager, Technical Project Management — Axon 911 | Location: Manhattan, New York (Hybrid — 4 days on-site) | Salary: $120,060–$160,080 USD | Experience: 6–8+ years in B2B SaaS or tech project delivery | Scope: People manager leading a PM team while personally owning high-complexity technical deployments | Domain: Next-generation 911 infrastructure and AI-powered public safety platforms
What This Role Is About
Axon 911 is rebuilding the technology stack behind emergency dispatch, and this role sits at the center of making those rollouts succeed. As Manager of Technical Project Management, you carry dual accountability: developing a team of project managers while personally steering the most demanding customer implementations. You serve as the executive-facing liaison, the cross-functional coordinator, and the person who transforms complex technical go-lives into reliable, on-time outcomes. The position demands equal parts coaching instinct and hands-on delivery discipline — neither alone is sufficient.
About Axon and Axon 911
Axon develops devices and cloud software for public safety agencies — hardware and platforms that law enforcement, first responders, and communications centers depend on in high-stakes situations. Its Axon 911 division unifies two acquired companies, Prepared and Carbyne, into a single platform that pairs modernized 911 call-handling infrastructure with an AI decision-support layer. The practical aim is to help dispatch agencies act faster and with better situational awareness when seconds matter. For professionals in emergency communications or govtech, it represents a genuine opportunity to reshape how 911 operates at scale.
What You Will Own
- Drive full-lifecycle customer deployments from initial kickoff and scoping through execution and successful go-live
- Stay actively involved in complex, high-visibility engagements while simultaneously coaching and developing the PM team
- Act as the primary executive-level point of contact for customers, implementation partners, and internal leadership
- Build, refine, and own commercial and pilot project plans, adapting them as deployments evolve
- Orchestrate cross-functional delivery across Engineering, R&D, Sales, Support, and external vendor partners
- Establish clear schedules, ownership expectations, and resource allocations across a concurrent portfolio of initiatives
- Surface and escalate risks early, then drive the decisions needed to protect timelines and maintain customer confidence
- Facilitate alignment meetings across internal teams, customers, and third-party partners
- Identify and pursue account expansion or add-on opportunities that arise naturally from delivery success
- Design, deploy, and continuously refine the PM tooling, templates, and methodologies that allow the team to scale
- Provide crisp, structured project updates to senior leadership and external stakeholders
- Model and reinforce a culture of operational rigor and continuous improvement across all deployments
Must-Have Qualifications
- Demonstrated tenure in a senior leadership role with direct people management responsibility
- 6–8+ years managing the complete project lifecycle in a B2B SaaS or technology-driven delivery environment
- Proven ability to remain hands-on in delivery while simultaneously building and scaling a PM team
- Direct experience coordinating with R&D and Engineering on technically complex implementations
- Comfort engaging C-suite stakeholders in enterprise B2B settings, or Command Staff in government and public safety contexts
- Strong leadership, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills
- Data-driven mindset with experience using delivery metrics and customer insights to guide planning decisions
- Track record of adopting AI tools, standardized templates, and repeatable processes to improve team throughput and efficiency
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, high-growth environment with frequently shifting priorities
- Willingness to travel domestically as required (estimated up to 10% of working time)
- Background working with or supporting Public Safety organizations strongly preferred
Nice to Have
- Hands-on familiarity with ESInet and i3 next-generation 911 technologies
- Prior experience leading or overseeing cloud-based platform deployments
Skills Breakdown: Required vs. Differentiating
The non-negotiable foundation is senior-level people management paired with deep B2B SaaS delivery experience — candidates without both are unlikely to clear the bar. Cross-functional orchestration (Engineering, Sales, Support, external partners) and executive-level stakeholder communication are core daily demands, not occasional responsibilities. Public safety domain experience is explicitly flagged as 'strongly preferred,' making it a meaningful differentiator among otherwise comparable candidates. ESInet/i3 knowledge and cloud deployment leadership are genuine differentiators but not blockers. An AI-forward approach to team scaling is a stated requirement, reflecting the direction of the Axon 911 platform itself.
