What This Role Involves
This position sits at the intersection of clinical support and patient-centered service. An Optical Technician at this Rocky Mount practice translates optometrist and ophthalmologist prescriptions into properly fitted glasses and contact lenses for each patient. The work demands both technical precision — collecting accurate measurements, operating lensometers, adjusting frames — and a service mindset focused on understanding individual patient needs and guiding them toward eyewear that genuinely works for them.
About EyeCare Partners

The organization brings together more than 300 ophthalmologists and over 700 optometrists across 18 states, with upward of 650 affiliated practice locations serving more than 80 markets nationwide. Its model is built around coordinated, continuous patient care spanning the full spectrum of eye health — from routine vision exams to complex surgical procedures. The Rocky Mount opening is part of that broad national footprint.

- Record precise optical measurements including pupillary distance, vertex distance, seg heights, pantoscopic tilt, bridge, eye size, and temple length
- Educate patients on lens types, lens coatings, and frame options suited to their lifestyle and prescription
- Fill, dispense, repair, and make physical adjustments to patient eyewear orders
- Process all glasses and contact lens orders accurately following established clinic procedures
Must-Have Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum one year in a customer- or patient-facing role, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience
- Satisfactory background check result as required by state law

- Working proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Physical ability to meet role demands: frequent walking and standing, fine motor tasks, and lifting items up to 25 lbs
Preferred but Not Required
- Prior experience in a medical office setting, particularly in ophthalmology or optometry
- ABO (American Board of Opticianry) certification
- NCLE (National Contact Lens Examiners) certification
Skills Breakdown: Must-Have vs. Nice-to-Have
The core technical competencies are hands-on: lensometry (auto and manual), precise optical measurement collection, frame fitting, and eyewear dispensing. Patient communication is equally non-negotiable — this is a service-adjacent role where translating a prescription into the right product for a specific person is as much about listening as measurement. The nice-to-haves (ABO, NCLE, prior ophthalmic office experience) are meaningful differentiators that reduce ramp-up time but are not gatekeepers for a motivated entry-level candidate.
