Own the AI UX for Homebound's construction field teams — a fully remote senior role paying $130,000–$155,000/yr. You'll design mobile-first, iOS-focused interfaces for computer vision feeds and automated on-site data capture, partnering closely with product and engineering. Periodic travel to Texas required for on-site time with field crews. No construction background needed, but a fast domain ramp is expected.
About This Role
Homebound is looking for a Senior Designer to define how artificial intelligence looks and behaves for the people who physically build their homes. This is not a conventional digital product role — your primary users are Superintendents and Direct Construction Operators navigating noisy, fast-moving jobsites on a mobile device. You'll take frontier AI capabilities — computer vision analysis, multimodal models, automated data capture — and turn them into interfaces that feel clear and trustworthy under real field conditions. Alongside shipping product, you'll serve as a storyteller, presenting Homebound's AI vision to executives, the board, and investors.
About Homebound
Homebound is a technology-driven residential construction company working to make custom homebuilding dramatically more accessible. Their platform lets buyers choose a location, select a floor plan, and complete the purchase entirely online — while Homebound manages the physical construction process through proprietary software at every stage. The company has attracted $150M in venture backing from investors including Google and Khosla Ventures, and is actively expanding operations across Texas, Colorado, and Florida. The Field AI team sits at the core of that execution layer, directly shaping how homes get built on the ground.
What You'll Own
- Lead end-to-end interaction design and high-craft visual execution across all field-facing product surfaces
- Translate frontier AI capabilities — computer vision, multimodal models, autonomous agents — into interfaces that surface model confidence clearly and handle uncertainty gracefully
- Design mobile-first experiences built for real jobsite conditions, not office or desktop environments
- Apply motion design selectively to make AI interactions feel responsive, intuitive, and compelling at key moments
- Collaborate daily with the Field AI product manager and engineering team from early concept through shipped product
- Craft and deliver executive-level presentations that make Homebound's AI strategy concrete and legible for leadership, board members, and investors
Must-Have Requirements
- 5+ years of product design experience with a portfolio demonstrating both strong interaction design and polished visual craft
- Proven experience designing native mobile applications (iOS strongly preferred)
- Hands-on experience shipping products with integrated AI/ML patterns — including confidence surfacing, uncertainty state handling, and human-in-the-loop correction flows
- Motion design capability applicable to AI-driven interface moments
- Demonstrated ability to present design work and strategic vision to executive and board-level audiences
- Comfortable driving clarity in ambiguous, rapidly evolving product spaces
- Self-starting and collaborative working style across product, engineering, and operations stakeholders
- Willingness to travel to Texas for periodic on-site time with field construction teams
Nice to Have
- Genuine interest in construction, homebuilding, or the physical built environment (no prior industry experience required — rapid domain learning is what's expected)
Skills at a Glance: Must-Have vs. Nice-to-Have
The non-negotiable core covers mobile interaction design (iOS), AI/ML UX patterns — specifically surfacing model confidence, representing uncertainty, and supporting human correction — and executive-level storytelling backed by five or more years of shipped product work. Motion design is required but intentionally scoped: not everyday output, brought out where it genuinely elevates the AI experience. The only explicit nice-to-have is construction domain familiarity; Homebound welcomes candidates without it and expects a fast learning ramp instead. Computer vision and multimodal AI are the technical domains you design for — not build — so deep ML knowledge is not expected.
Compensation & Salary
Homebound has disclosed a salary range of $130,000 to $155,000 per year for this role. Placement within that band depends on depth of relevant experience, portfolio quality, and work location. Specific benefits — health coverage, equity, and other perks — are not itemized in this posting; Homebound's careers page carries a general benefits overview, and the assigned recruiter can provide specifics during the hiring process. No relocation assistance is referenced; because the position is fully remote, candidates anywhere in the US are eligible at the listed range.
Location & Work Model
This position is fully remote and open to candidates located anywhere in the United States. Day-to-day work happens remotely, but the role includes a travel requirement to Texas for on-site time with Homebound's field construction teams — frequency is not defined in the posting. Visa sponsorship eligibility is not addressed; candidates who require sponsorship should confirm directly with Homebound's recruiting team before applying.
