Role at a Glance

This Bay Area hybrid seat (2 days onsite) puts a senior accounting professional in charge of the full close cycle at a growing technology company. Scope covers journal entries, monthly financial statements, BVA reporting, internal controls, and light team mentorship. Salary band: $145,000–$165,000. The hard floor is 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience and strong U.S. GAAP command. CPA status and ERP system fluency both strengthen a candidacy.

About This Role

Treering is filling a senior finance seat that reports into the Controller and holds primary accountability for the day-to-day accounting function. The mandate is dual: keep the books accurate and closes on schedule today, while simultaneously improving the controls and processes that will scale alongside the business. Cross-functional coordination with operations and senior leadership is woven into the role's core, not an occasional add-on. Candidates who perform well in fast-moving, growth-stage environments — where priorities compete and deadlines are firm — will find this position well-matched to their strengths.

About Treering

Treering is a Silicon Valley technology company that has built a platform combining just-in-time digital printing with proprietary AI to produce personalized memory products — custom school yearbooks, photobooks, and similar keepsakes — for students, schools, and families nationwide. The business sits at the intersection of software and physical goods, which means the finance function touches both subscription-style revenue dynamics and the cost structures of physical production. The company characterizes its internal culture as collaborative and improvement-driven, expecting team members to take ownership of their domain and think proactively about broader organizational goals.

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and all supporting schedule documentation
  • Maintain the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and underlying financial records
  • Manage cash, accruals, fixed asset tracking, and balance sheet reconciliation processes
  • Review accounting transactions against company policy and escalate exceptions
  • Produce monthly financial statements and budget-vs-actual (BVA) reports
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
  • Build documentation packages for internal stakeholders and external reporting obligations
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and control frameworks
  • Coordinate support for external audits, tax filings (including sales tax), and regulatory submissions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA license or CPA candidacy currently in progress
  • Background in public accounting (national, regional, or mid-market firm)

  • Hands-on use of NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Enterprise, or a comparable cloud ERP
  • Direct involvement supporting an annual external audit or producing audited financial statements

Skills That Matter Most

The non-negotiable technical floor is advanced Excel combined with U.S. GAAP fluency — both are required from day one. Month-end close ownership is equally hard-required at this seniority level. ERP experience (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or equivalent) is listed as preferred but carries practical weight inside a cloud-native tech business: candidates already operating in one of those systems will ramp materially faster. CPA status or active candidacy differentiates a shortlist but is not a screening gate. Public accounting experience signals audit readiness, a function this role actively supports.
