Role at a Glance

Customer-facing delivery role on Accela's Professional Services team. You'll run requirements workshops, map business processes, configure enterprise government software, and coordinate across stakeholder groups. Fully remote within the US. Clients are government agencies. Base salary $100K–$120K, discretionary annual bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. Best fit for consultants who bridge business goals and technical delivery.

About the Role

Accela's Professional Services team is adding a Senior Consultant to lead customer-facing delivery for government agency clients. The role sits at the intersection of business analysis and enterprise software implementation: you'll run structured workshops to surface what agencies need, translate those needs into documented requirements and process flows, and then configure Accela's platform to match. Strong communicators who can hold their own in executive stakeholder meetings and in detailed configuration sessions will find this role a natural fit.

About Accela

Accela builds cloud-based software purpose-built for government agencies — covering permitting, licensing, planning, service-request management, and related civic workflows. The platform is engineered to be accessible across community sizes, with particular emphasis on giving small and mid-sized municipalities technology capabilities typically available only to large cities. Accela has operated in the government technology sector for nearly two decades, and its open, flexible SaaS architecture is designed to address agencies' current operational needs while giving them a foundation for emerging requirements ahead.

What You'll Do

  • Run structured requirements elicitation sessions — workshops, stakeholder interviews, and working groups — with government agency clients.
  • Draw out business goals, pain points, constraints, and success criteria to achieve alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Produce and validate a comprehensive requirements inventory: functional and non-functional requirements, business rules, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Convert approved requirements into implementation-ready artifacts: process flow diagrams, user stories, and functional specifications.
  • Map current-state and future-state business processes to surface gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deploy those process maps as facilitation and decision-support tools to drive solution design conversations.
  • Configure Accela's software platform in line with approved requirements and established platform best practices.
  • Work alongside technical, data, and integration teams to define and refine technical requirements and cross-team dependencies.
  • Serve as the translation layer between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, ensuring intent, scope constraints, and downstream impacts are clearly communicated.
  • Steer clients toward proven, standardized solutions while accommodating legitimate scope and business constraints.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers on scope control, early risk identification, and decision documentation.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT), defect triage, and resolution tracking.
  • Validate configuration completeness, business-process alignment, and operational readiness ahead of go-live.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Proven background in business analysis, requirements elicitation, and stakeholder facilitation within complex, multi-stakeholder implementation projects.
  • Hands-on track record producing and applying current-state and future-state business process flows to drive stakeholder alignment and guide solution design.
  • Direct experience configuring enterprise software platforms from requirements gathered during the discovery phase.
  • Demonstrated history of coordinating effectively with cross-functional technical teams on shared delivery efforts.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard documentation methods: process modeling, use cases, user stories, or equivalent approaches.
  • Capacity to operate at a high conceptual level without sacrificing accuracy in configuration and documentation work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of steering teams toward practical, best-practice resolutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, able to influence and set direction with both executive business stakeholders and hands-on technical teams.
  • Comfort working within project scope boundaries and actively participating in change control conversations.
  • Ability to prioritize and stay effective in fast-paced delivery environments with competing stakeholder demands.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior professional services or management consulting background; Big 4 or Big 5 consulting experience is a notable differentiator.
  • Government or public-sector domain knowledge, particularly in permitting, licensing, planning, or service management.
  • Experience coaching or guiding junior consultants on facilitation techniques, documentation standards, and client engagement best practices.
  • Track record of documenting and presenting cross-functional workflows that inform technical architecture and integration design.

Skills Breakdown: Must-Have vs. Nice-to-Have

The core threshold requires requirements elicitation, stakeholder facilitation, business process flow documentation, and direct enterprise software configuration experience — candidates without all four will find this a stretch. Nice-to-haves add domain depth: government or public-sector background shortens the client context curve meaningfully on a platform built exclusively for agencies. Consulting pedigree (Big 4 or Big 5) is a differentiator, not a gate. The seniority level implies five or more years of professional services delivery with evidence of cross-functional coordination and mentoring of others.
